You can’t always get what you want

Yesterday on the way home from daycare, tragedy struck. In an instant, a normally peaceful car ride home turned into a nightmare for all.

The DVD player stopped working! (AAAAAAGGGHHHHH!)

Without the DVD player, MLE finds it horribly difficult to do anything but whine and cry and throw everything you try to get him as a bribe to behave. MLI sits beside him in his carseat with his hands over his ears shouting, “AIDEN BE QUIET!” Which only causes CareerMom to admonish him, which causes MLE to cry even louder so as to be heard. It’s a self-perpetuating nightmare from which the only escape is arriving home.

But this brings up a quandary see. We have come to the conclusion that a new vehicle is in order, but of course with gas prices being what they are and new vehicle costs nearing astronomical, we’re putting it off a bit longer. But whatever we do get will have a built-in DVD player rather than the little mobile deal we have now. We’re on our second player and I hate to spend another $100 on a DVD player that we might not need in a few months. Then again, $100 is a heckuva lot cheaper than a $38,000 automobile.

Alrighty then…I’m off to Radio Shack.

I will do anything for a pleasant ride home from daycare…point to ducks and make quack noises…point to the neon tree in front of Hooters and make no noises…you name it. You could do one of those “priceless” credit card commercials about your quandary!

    oh my goodness…..
We have a suburban and a jeep laredo. Fortunately I do not leave the house daily but my husband does. He is longing for the days he can take the motorcycle in to save a little gas money. No complaints here though he only hase 20 minutes in and back with barely any traffic.
You must have some killer commute. Have you tried the seat backpack things that have a tray that comes down with space to color on or look at a book?
We got them when we took a trip to Hershey Park and now use them interchangeably with the DVD if we have a trip of more than and hour. Otherwise the kids are fine–becaue they do not do it often.
