A note about the new header image

Posted on Updated on

The new header image was inspired by Surfer Jay’s comments in response to my post (here) about how your love of cooking is sure to take a tumble when you start having kids.

Jay, this is what my spice drawer looks like most of the time. No matter how many times I straighten it, the kids just come back and jumble it all up!

Mmm, Cumin seeds… Perhaps you could sprinkle some of that chili powder on the drawer handle, I hear it helps with nail bighting.

Tonight Lilly turned to me after dinner and said, “I don’t think we’re going to be able to cook together much anymore,” in regards to one of us having to hold/wipe/shake the baby, while the other cooked. So I am already feeling the shockwave of having a kid.

I guess I will be lucky in regards to my masterfully organized trip around the world in my spice cabinet. I made my first prototype wall mounted spice rack for my 53 bottles of spices. I copied a hard-wood spice rack I saw in Crate and Barrel. So I just need four more three foot rows… I hadn’t thought about the kids destroying my collection, but I suppose I am one foot ahead of the battle, by mere accident. Although, once the boy learns how to pull out the bottom drawers to get on top of the sink to reach the wall…. There’s not always a fix is there?

RE: Truthfully, I wouldn’t normally have my spices within the reach of little paws, but the only cabinet space within arms reach of my stove, is either this narrow little area in which I could see only about 3 bottles of spice at a time, or on the other side where we currently keep all the various medicines. I’m considering cleaning out that space and moving my spices up there. All this talk of spice has me hankering to watch DUNE!

    Nice font.

RE: Are you talking about my super cool “Outer Glow” Photoshop font in the header, or are you being sarcastic about my being too lazy to change the Times New Roman font in this post?

I was referring to the outer glow effect on the Times New Roman font.

I am never sarcastic. Well, sometimes, but not this time.

Seeing your can of Old Bay is making me hungry for shrimp.

RE: “Old Bay is one of my favorites. My mom used it a lot growing up, along with Crab Boil. Growing up on the Gulf Coast, one DOES get some goooood seafood!
